Whole Foods and vegetarians

Hi all, I was wondering if more vegetarians could appreciate if Whole Food stores would start labeling their foods with some "V" symbols for vegetarian or vegan,... like the soups for example, it would make it easier not to have to read all the ingredients. I have tried asking WF using their little comments/requests, if more of us would ask --maybe they would...
Another thing, many Whole Foods stores have a Japanese/sushi deli, they have many vegetarian noodles dishes, what they do not mention is that the water where the baskets of veggies are immersed to warm up is the same water where they immerse meat, fish, and chicken. that makes it non-vegetarian, I do not believe they should call it vegetarian.
If you agree, please post a note or ask your local store manager to take action.
Peace

If that is true that Whole Foods is immersing food that they later call vegetarian in the very same water they are cooking meat in, that is very, very wrong. I haven't been to a Whole Foods in probably a year, but hearing this I'll likely not eat at their deli if I do go!

And if they were to label their soups and other things as vegetarian, in light of what you say about their Japanese/sushi selections, I don't think we could believe them. Some cooks will say a soup is vegetarian even if it has chicken or beef broth in it, and Thai cooking sometimes has fish flavoring and the servers will still claim it is vegetarian. Too many people don't know the meaning of 'vegetarian' unfortunately.

By the way, the other person who complained about Whole Foods lately in this tribe deleted her own post, and the reply I gave, in the thread she started. Just so you all know, as moderator here I don't go deleting things that people write, unless it is spam or off topic advertising.

I tried asking the customer service of the store about the sushi deli part , what they said is that they are not part of the Whole Food store, but they just rent the space to them... I still believe it is their responsability to make sure that what is done in their store is a representation of the store itself...
I am unfortunately sure about the fact that there is only one "water container" for that purpose... which means no more Japanese noodles for me :-)....
If they were to label things they probably could be at risk of law suit and it might force them to pay more attention to making sure that vegetarian has to be meat-free....... that would make it "safer" for us...
      peace

Your V for vegan at the deli counter is a great idea, Gio. I'm going to send them a comment about it. I always read the ingredients first (which takes forever), but I got some acorn squash stuffed w/ dried fruit there a few weeks ago & it wasn't until I read the ingredients again when I got home that I realized my eyes had somehow skipped over the word "butter." Bummer. That "V," or the lack of a "V" would be very helpful.

Thank you lyoness... I think we would need one symbol for vegetarian and one for vegan.... not sure which.

Been a while since I was at Whole Foods, however, I was at a Fresh Choice restaurant the other day. They have a cafeteria style food line and they label their food as either Veggie or Vegan, and even have symbols for Dairy, Wheat, Seafood and Meat for those peeps that have an allergy to some foods or a religious preference. It was a relief to be able to see what I was getting at a glance. They even had a vegan soup choice, but you may have to ask the server for that...
